The Annual Mayoral Dinner was held on 13 September 2017 at the Gunnedah Town Hall where a Shenhua team headed by CEO Wu Yaping attended the function.
The event marked 20 years since its first inception and was originally held as a breakfast to bolster community spirit due to the downturn of economics in the town. The function was jointly run in conjunction with the Ministers Fraternal. The Mayoral Dinner was an opportunity to bring the whole community together, to build relationships and enhance community spirit.
Gunnedah Mayor, Jamie Chaffey said, “I am very proud to be hosting this event being the 35th Mayor since its inception. With over 350 people in attendance it promises of a strong future for the town and as we are becoming increasingly multi-cultural it is important to show respect to the many newcomers from all over the world. Gunnedah can enjoy a harmonious community due to its diversity and there will be many opportunities available that will see our town prosper.”
“This year we are honoured to welcome as the official guest, His Excellency, NSW Governor, General David Hurly to share his experiences from his military career and the role of Governor of NSW.”
Governor Hurley gave an inspiring speech where he said, “One of the most important roles a Governor can do – aside from constitutional responsibilities – is to simply say thank-you to those in rural communities across NSW who are sustaining the rural way of life in sometimes very difficult situations.”
Shenhua staff, as local active corporate residents, were proud to make a positive contribution to the night by attending and showing support for such a great occasion in the town’s history. Mr. Wu Yaping met with Mr David Hurly that evening and expressed his desire to further cement the ties between the company and local communities.
