Shenhua staff, along with other community leaders, recently attended a breakfast hosted by the Dorothea Mackellar Society to welcome the Patrons of the Dorothea Mackellar Memorial Society.
The Society was inspired by Dorothea Mackellar's poetry and her love of country and conducts the largest and oldest children's poetry competition in Australia, now in its 32nd year. It provides a platform for Australia's youth to have a voice and an opportunity to strive for excellence in literature.
The three patrons who were presiding over the Judging and Poetry Competition Awards were The Hon Margaret White AO (former Judge of the Queensland Court of Appeal and Joint Commissioner for the Northern Territory Commission into Youth Detention), The Hon Mark Vaile AO (former Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of the National Party, and Chairman and Independent Non-Executive Director of Whitehaven Coal) and Professor Peter Shergold (former Secretary to Prime Minister and Cabinet and current Chancellor of Western Sydney University).
Shenhua was honoured to be able to welcome the Patrons to the community of Gunnedah and to show support for a program that inspires the youth of Gunnedah.
