Harmony Day is held every year on 21 March to coincide with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and since 1999 it has grown to become a significant day for Australians to come together and celebrate our nation’s cultural diversity.
The message of Harmony Day is everyone belongs. It's a day to celebrate Australia's diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. In 2016, the Harmony Day theme is ‘our diversity is our strength’.
Staff from Shenhua Watermark attended a Harmony Day event hosted by Winanga-Li Indigenous Child and Family Centre held on 24 March 2016.
Debbie Watson, Shenhua Community Liaison Officer, said, “Our Company is extremely proud of its multi-culturalism and our staff's willingness to integrate into the Gunnedah Community. Today is an example of our commitment to participating in and supporting community events such as these where a diverse range of cultures can come together to celebrate inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.”
