Shenhua Community Fund Projects Rides into Action

Publish Time:2015-10-15

Ooranga Family Mobile Resource Unit has been providing mobile early childhood education services to small villages and communities around Gunnedah for over 30 years. Currently Ooranga operates seven preschool venues for two days each week at Boggabri, Curlewis, Currabubula, Mullaley, Premer, Spring Ridge and Walhallow.

They also deliver a mobile support playgroup that visits 13 different locations each fortnight. Due to the mobile nature of the service, an application was made in 2013 for $22,000 for the final round of the Shenhua Watermark Community Fund to support the purchase of a wide range of educational resources and outdoor equipment that could be utilised across the Ooranga services to improve the quality of resources available to isolated children and their families.

Ooranga Executive Officer, Rebecca Dridan, said, "These resources have been very warmly welcomed by Ooranga staff and have been well utilised by children across the district. Ooranga would like to thank Shenhua for the valuable contribution to the Service which has provided much needed assistance in promoting to children the importance of leading an active healthy lifestyle using a variety of educational tools."

Shenhua Community Liaison Officer, Debbie Watson, said "Shenhua places great importance on the unity of families and the opportunity for all children to be able to obtain early childhood education. Children should not be disadvantaged by distance in regional areas and that is why we are very pleased to be able to provide this assistance from the last round of the $5m Shenhua Community Fund especially to a Service which has such long standing relationship with Gunnedah and the surrounding region. Shenhua hopes to follow their lead and also develop a long-standing relationship with the Community and surrounds."
