In recognition of the importance of women employees to their Company, Shenhua celebrated International Women's Day with a luncheon and presentation of a gift to their female employees. This celebration has become a Company tradition since their arrival in Gunnedah in 2008.
Madam Wang, Director/Vice President Shenhua, said the function was held to extend the appreciation of the Company to their female staff for their dedication to work and their contribution over the last twelve months.
Although only a small organisation Shenhua Watermark currently employs 26 staff, of which eight are female, who hold a variety of positions within the Company including one Director. This equates to 30% of Shenhua staff being women which is above the average of 17% in mining companies (EOWA Annual Report).
All around the world, International Women's Day represents an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women while calling for greater equality. Make It Happen is the 2015 theme encouraging effective action for advancing and recognising women.
In 2015, International Women's Day will highlight the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a historic roadmap signed by 189 governments 20 years ago that sets the agenda for realizing women's rights. While there have been many achievements since then, many serious gaps remain. This is the time to uphold women's achievements, recognize challenges, and focus greater attention on women's rights and gender equality to mobilize all people to do their part.
