Publish Time:2014-12-02

On 2 December 2014 Gunnedah Public School hosted a morning tea to officially open the completion of their Shenhua Community Fund Project.

In 2013, Gunnedah Public School was received a $55,000 grant from the final round of Shenhua Watermark's Community Fund to install a new kitchen in the school hall.

Attending the ceremony were Gunnedah Shire Mayor, Clr Owen Hasler, Shenhua representatives Gerry McDonald, Human Resources Manager and Debbie Watson, Community Liaison Officer, along with P&C representatives and project contractors.

"We applied for the last round of funding in the community grants and were fortunate enough to receive funding to in the new kitchen. We would like to thank Shenhua Watermark for their generous donation," School Principal Stephen de Roos said.

The school's Trackers Café has now been transformed from a very basic kitchen to a state-of-the-art facility with commercial dishwasher, two induction ovens and large-scale fridge and freezer. The kitchen is currently used by the P&C who run the school canteen and the school's breakfast club which gives children access to a free breakfast each morning. The hall can also be hired out by members of the public.

Gerry McDonald responded by saying, "We are very pleased to be part of the project and we are especially pleased to hear that the facility is a community asset and can also be used by the public as this gives more value to the Project."

Mayor Owen Hasler concluded the official opening by stating that as a member of the Community Fund Advisory Committee he was pleased to see the Project adopted and completed. From a Council perspective he congratulated Shenhua on providing a valuable community asset and he looks forward to further projects that will come to fruition over the next twelve months. Mayor Hasler commended Shenhua for providing funds and targeting community assets that will be used for many years to come.
