Walhallow Students Swing Into Action

Publish Time:2014-12-01

On 1 December 2014 Walhallow Public School had the privilege of hosting an assembly commemorating the completion of their Shenhua Community Fund Project.

In 2013, Walhallow Public School was successful in its application for a Community Fund grant for $50,000 to replace the sand soft-fall under the playground equipment with rubber matting, establish a covered sand pit and a seating area in the shade to allow for outdoor learning.

Attending the ceremony were Liverpool Plains Shire Mayor, Andrew Hope, Shenhua representatives Gerry McDonald, Human Resources Manager and Debbie Watson, Community Liaison Officer, along with parents and friends of the Wallhallow Public School.

School Principal, Leeanne Batho said, "I would like to say a big thank you to Shenhua Watermark for their generous donation. It definitely makes an enormous difference to us. All our students and staff have taken an interest in helping to look after the new area and I think it makes our school look clean, organised and modern. Most importantly it now meets the Australian safety standards required to keep our students safe."

Gerry McDonald provided an address to the ceremony saying, "We are proud to be able to assist Walhallow School in the improvement of their playground. Although the Community Fund is now a completed program Shenhua, through its EIS, has committed to a continued program of offering school based traineeships to young people as well as providing job opportunities to people in the local area pending Government approvals."

Shenhua's Human Resources Manager, Gerry McDonald and Community Liaison Officer, Debbie Watson and Liverpool Plains Shire Mayor, Andrew Hope, officially open the Walhallow Public School Community Fund Project.
