Walhallow Public School Shenhua Community Fund Project Ready to Swing into Action

Publish Time:2014-10-28

Construction of the Walhallow Public School Shenhua Community Fund playground improvement is complete with the final laying of the turf taking place this week.

In 2013 Walhallow Public School was successful in its application for a Community Fund grant for $50,000 to replace the sand soft-fall under the playground equipment with rubber matting, establish a covered sand pit and a seating area in the shade to allow for outdoor learning.

School Principal, Leeanne Batho said, "The rubber soft fall around the playground equipment has cleaned up the whole area. Having a separate sand pit has meant the students can opt to play in the sand pit or not, without carting sand into the school buildings. The area is certainly more hygienic and the gym looks modern, completed and is safer for the children to use. Being in our school colours of blue and maroon makes it even more special. Without this funding the project would not have been achieved. So our school and community would like to thank Shenhua for their generous grant."

Debbie Watson, Shenhua Community Liaison Officer, said Shenhua is extremely pleased to be able to support such a worthy project that can benefit the whole community of Walhallow Village both during and after school hours. The children often visit for a play whilst teachers are working after school.
